It's the first issue of Vertigo's The Unwritten by Mike Carey and Peter Gross - the same team behind Lucifer - and I'm hooked. The story of a Harry Potter-esque tale come-to-life in modern day UK is funny, entertaining and smart, and makes an interesting commentary on social/literary phenomenon. Can't wait for the second installment! What are YOUR thoughts?

Picked it up last night, will be cracking it open today at some point. So happy to see Carey and Gross together again! At $1 for 40 pages, this book was a steal.
I thought the Harry Potter story similarities were too irritating and jarring to really get into the story, and this from a non-Potter fan.
I think the concept is decent, but I was reminded on every other page that Tom is a Harry Potter analogue and it just got really tiresome really quickly.
Brandon, that's a great point. It was a bit tiresome - I'm just hoping that, as the first issue, they're just trying to drill in the point and will then move on. Fingers crossed!
It was a great first issue. I'll definitely be reading the series going forward. People are dismissing this as an HP knockoff, when in fact it's a comment on the fervor surrounding the franchise, the cult of celebrity, and fiction as alternate reality. Really cool stuff.
Loved this comic. I was doing my monthly walk around the comic shop and saw this written by Mike Carey and picked it up. I loved his Lucifer series and it looks like this will not disappoint.
